Special Testing

Minnesota Eye Consultants’ Clinical Research Department has the capability to perform unique testing on individuals working for various government agencies. Several government agencies require their employees who have had previous refractive surgery (e.g. LASIK, RK, PRK, PTK) to undergo special visual testing to document post-surgery visual function. Minnesota Eye Consultants is one of a limited number of clinics in the nation who is equipped to perform these series of tests. Some of the agencies they have provided this type of testing for include: DEA, INS, Border Patrol, Secret Service, FBI and IRS Criminal Investigation Unit.

The testing involves a comprehensive eye examination along with several glare-testing procedures. It is required that the examinations are performed in a controlled environment with precisely calibrated equipment, lighting levels, specific vision charts (ETDRS, Pelli Robson) and visual distances (3 meters or less). Because of the precision required for these examinations it is necessary they be performed in the Clinical Research Department where they are equipped to provide the necessary services.
