Dr. Pier is a Board Certified general ophthalmologist serving patients of Minneapolis and it’s suburbs since 1980. He is now seeing patients at the Coon Rapids, Maplewood, and Bloomington offices of Minnesota Eye Consultants. Dr Pier has had along affiliation with Abbott-Northwestern and Minneapolis Children’s Hospitals. He has served as Department chairman in Ophthalmology for both facilities. He has served as President of the Minneapolis Ophthalmologic Society and has been named by Minneapolis St Paul Magazine as “Top Doc”. Dr. Pier was raised in the small town of Avon, South Dakota. He received his undergraduate degree with High Distinction in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He was named to the Iron Wedge and Tau Beta Pi national honorary societies for academic excellence. Dr. Pier earned his MD from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He was named to the Alpha Omega Alpha national honorary society in his third year. He received a year of general surgical residency from the University of California, San Francisco and residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota. He was ranked in the top 2 % of candidates of the Ophthalmology Board examination and was Board Certified in 1980.
