Kaitlyn “Katie” Brettin, M.D., is the 2025–26 Glaucoma Fellow at Minnesota Eye Consultants. Originally from Minot, North Dakota, Dr. Brettin completed her ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. She earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her undergraduate studies at Tufts University, graduating summa cum laude with dual degrees in Biology and Psychology.
Dr. Brettin brings a strong background in both clinical training and research. Her academic work spans multiple specialties, including glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology, and neonatal medicine. Her recent research on minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) has been presented at major ophthalmology conferences, including Wills Eye Conference and the upcoming ESCRS Congress. She is also a published author in peer-reviewed journals such as Review of Ophthalmology, J AAPOS, and Pediatrics & Neonatology.
Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Brettin held a wide range of jobs—from dietary aide and water meter reader to certified nursing assistant—which helped shape her strong work ethic and compassion for others. Throughout her training, she has remained committed to health equity and patient-centered care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Brettin enjoys reading, baking (especially cookies), and exploring new fitness routines. Her ideal Saturday includes a morning hike with family, pastries with a matcha latte, and a leisurely bike ride. A fun fact: her first job was at Arby’s—and she highly recommends the jalapeño bites with Bronco Berry sauce.
