We would like to welcome Alicia M. Alvarado, OD to Minnesota Eye Consultants as our 2016-2017 Optometric Fellow!
Originally from Willmar, MN, Dr. Alvarado received her undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. While there, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Spanish. She then went on to receive her Doctorate of Optometry degree at Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, OR, graduating with honors.
During her time at Pacific University, Dr. Alvarado was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society for academic excellence. She was actively involved in the AMIGOS Eye Ball, a fundraising event which provides the opportunity for students and doctors to go on global service trips to provide vision care for people in need. She served as the BSK Board secretary and also participated in Sports Vision Club, where she assisted in sports vision screenings for undergraduate athletes.
Dr. Alvarado also volunteers for Special Olympics Washington Opening Eyes, where she assists in conducting vision screenings for hundreds of competing athletes.
She is currently an active member in both the Minnesota Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry, and plans to become a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (F.A.A.O.).
In her free time, Dr. Alvarado enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, camping, reading and singing.
Along with providing primary eye care, Dr. Alvarado has a special interest in Ocular Disease and surgical co-management. She sees patients out of our Bloomington, Minnetonka and Minneapolis locations.
