Dr. Launer is a Twin Cities native. He completed his undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis, graduating summa cum laude. When he returned to the Twin Cities, he earned his medical degree at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. Dr. Launer completed his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Launer has earned a teaching appointment as an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota. He has also been a Surgical Consultant/Instructor at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. Dr. Launer is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and he is a member of The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS).
Before joining Minnesota Eye Consultants, Dr. Launer practiced with Progressive Eye Care (1985-2011) and with ProEyeCare Associates (2011-2013). He emphasized seeking out and implementing new technologies and techniques to improve cataract and refractive surgery. He was one of the first to perform topical, small incision self-sealing cataract surgery and was the first to do all-laser LASIK in Minnesota. He won “Best Paper of Symposium” at ASCRS for his work in LASIK enhancement.
Dr. Launer currently practices General Ophthalmology, offering comprehensive eye examinations, surgical evaluations and treatment of ocular diseases to patients at Minnesota Eye Consultants.
In his free time, Dr. Launer enjoys road biking, hiking, cross country skiing, painting, and travel.
