We would like to welcome Sarah Maki, MD to Minnesota Eye Consultants as our 2019-2020 Ophthalmic Glaucoma Fellow!
Dr. Maki specializes in glaucoma and cataract surgery, and she practices out of our Bloomington and Minneapolis locations.
Dr. Maki graduated summa cum laude from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology, Specializations in Health Promotion and Connected Learning. While there, she was named a Michigan State University Bailey Scholar and was awarded the Michigan State University Board of Trustees Scholarship, an award for highest academic achievement. She then received her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, IL, graduating cum laude. She was awarded an Institutional Scholarship from Stritch and graduated with Honors in Bioethics and Professionalism.
Following medical school, Dr. Maki completed a transitional year residency at Henry Ford Hospital System in Detroit, MI, after which she completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She received the OKAP (Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program) Award and Richard T. Olson Best Teaching Award from the University of Minnesota. She also served on the Resident Interview Selection Committee, where she reviewed applications and interviewed applicants.
Dr. Maki has presented at several national conferences and co-authored numerous book chapters and journal publications. She is very involved in volunteer work and has worked with refugees and underserved populations at several different organizations, assisting with medical care, translation, relocation and integration into the workforce.
In her spare time, Dr. Maki enjoys playing piano, travel, cooking, and baking.
