Please welcome Dr. Thomas Meirick to Minnesota Eye Consultants as our 2022-2023 Ophthalmic Cornea Fellow! Dr. Meirick specializes in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery and practices primarily at our Woodbury and Minnetonka locations.
Dr. Meirick grew up in the small town of Protivin, Iowa (population 280). He attended the University of Iowa for his undergraduate studies, where he graduated with distinction and majors in Economics and Biochemistry. He stayed in Iowa City after graduation, earning his medical degree from the Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Meirick was first exposed to ophthalmology during medical school, and quickly developed a passion for the field. He completed his internship at Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, IL, and his residency training at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Throughout his education and training, Dr. Meirick has received several honors and awards, including the Peter Armstrong Award for the Best Quality, Safety, Value Paper, the Iowa Orthopaedic Society Medical Student Research Award, and participating as a member of the academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Meirick has published peer-reviewed articles in several of the most respected journals in ophthalmology, including Ophthalmology, JAMA Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmology Science. He has also presented his research at conferences around the country, including the annual meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS).
In his free time, he enjoys playing and watching many different types of sports, running, exploring the city, traveling, watching movies, and playing board games.
